摘要
本文收集四十位正常人，分別作未點麻藥前及點過麻藥後的Schirmer test，並把試驗的時間延長為七分鐘。結果發現：一即使點了局部麻醉劑也不是測量涙液的基礎分泌量。二使用Schirmer test而不點局部麻醉劑來測量淚液分泌潛力，對評估乾眼症很有幫助。

In 40 normal subjects, results of kinetic studies using the Schirmer test with anesthesia and without anesthesia for seven minutes demonstrated that: 1. The schirmer test with anesthesia is not capable of measuring a basic tear secretion indepependent of reflex components. 2. In evaluating the dry eye patients, we should consider the potential of reflex tearing by dessicating the cornea. The Schirmer test without anesthesia-measuring the potential of reflex tearing-may be helpful in the diagnosis of keratoconjunctivitis sicca, but should be performed in conjunction with other methods, such as tear film break up time, precorneal tear film analysis and rose bengal stain.
