Combined Hamartoma of the Retina and Retinal Pigment Epithelium-Case Report

Combined hamartoma of the retina and RPE is an unusual benign congenital retinal tumor composed of neural retina, retinal pigment epithelium, retinal blood vessels, and vitreoretinal membranes. It tends to be unilateral and unifocal, but it can be familial tendency. It charactristically involves the juxtapapillary retina, macula, or both, and frequently causes moderate to profound visual impairment in the affected eye. We report a case of 19 year-old man with complaint of blurred vision for 6 months in his left eye. Fundus examination revealed typical combined hamartoma of the retina with epiretinal gliosis. Fluorescein angiography showed hypofluorescence in the arterial phase, hyperfluorescence and marked intralesional vascularity and vascular tortuosity in the venous phase, and fluorescence leakage in the late phase. Observation was employed, and, visual acuity was not worse. We discuss the presence and management of this rare case detailedly.
