Radish juice (Dilution factor l: 2 (w/v) was found to be 100 % effective on inhibiting the penetration of Meloidogyne. Javanica and Pratylenchus coffeae on the roots of Adzuki bean seedlings. Using it as a Penetration-inhibiting agent greatly facilitated the research on the penetration speed of nematodes. Both storage and cultivation times of nematodes and plant species were found to affect the penetration speed of M. javanica and P. coffeae. The penetration speed of the second-stage juveniles of M. javanica, after stored at 15℃ for 26-days, was much slower than those of juveniles stored for 3.5 days, and the final penetration rates (%) of the former were only approximately one fourth of the latter. The juveniles stored for the same periods of times penetrated into the roots of Adzuki bean much faster than into the roots of radish, but the final penetration rates were not significantly different. Due to the difficulty in recording the age of individual P. coffeae, the nematode age was represented by the number of days of the whole population cultured on excised roots in Gamborg’s B5 medium and was termed culture-age. The penetration speed and the final penetration rate of P. coffeae nematodes at the culture-age of 30-days were faster and higher than those of nematodes cultivated for 63-days and 96-days on the roots of Adzuki bean. P. coffeae penetrated into the roots of Adzuki bean faster than into the roots of radish. Both M. javanica and P. coffeae were capable of penetrating into the roots of Adzuki bean immediately after inoculation. There were 9.4% of M. javanica and 7.0% of P. coffeae penetrated into the roots 60 minutes after inoculation.
