Euler calculations based on the TVD method are performed in the present study to investigate systematically the geometrical effect on the saboted projectile aerodynamics due to the different sabot positions. When the sabot is located frontward enough, a bow shock may exist at the conical part of the penetrator. Otherwise, the bow shock wil1 occur at the cylindrical part of the penetrator. As a result, the flow field, shock position, and pressure distribution along the body surface are quite different from each other for these two kinds of sabot position. Unsteady flow may exist when the position of the bow shock at the penetrator is located quite close to the juncture of the conical and the cylindrical parts of the penetrator.
