Around 1980, because of the increase of labor cost in Japan, many Japanese manufacturing companies began to transfer their production basis to the South East and afterwards to China. Together with the manufacturing processes, Japanese management systems such as TQM were transferred to these countries. Remarkable thing is that TQM has begun to be implemented not only in the factories managed by Japanese but also in the native factories in these countries, which do not have direct relation with Japanese companies, and they have attained excellent results. In these several years, 10 companies in India and 8 companies in Thailand have been awarded by the Deming Prize. Author will give some explanation for these trends and present his thought on the possibility for Asian manufacturing companies to make further development by TQM.
