The Relationship between Occupational Stress and Life Stress Among Hospital Nurses

摘要

Among the researches about stress, the life stress and the occupational stress are usually studied. Most of the researchers focused on the factors involved in the causes and results of stress. The relationship between the life stress and the occupational stress was seldom mentioned. We presume that life stress and occupational stress interact with each other. That is, one increases the susceptibility of the other in the same individual reciprocally. Material and method: All ICU nurses and some nurses of non-ICU and OPD units are selected by the purposive sampling from one medical center. Self-administered questionnaire was designed to the collect personal variables and measure the life stress and the occupational stress. Results: Life stress and occupational stress are correlated positively (r=0.25, p＜0.01). That is, the nurses experience more life stress when they were under high occupational stress and vice versa.
