Object: The purpose of this study was to discuss the correlation factor cognition of the medical ionizing radiation and protection for the hospital ward nursing staffs.Materials and Methods: The structural formula questionnaire was applied in this study. The questionnaire included one hundred and eighty-three copies to a regional teaching hospital that located in the middle of Taiwan from September, 2009. This questionnaire was for understanding the cognition of radiation to the ward nursing staffs.Results: One hundred and sixty-six effective questionnaires (N=166) were collected from the hospital ward nursing staffs. The ratio of returning reaches 90.7%. The questionnaire results via analysis showed that the hospital ward nursing staffs possess the cognition of the radiation shield and the ionizing radiation disciple security knowledge, but the rate of accuracy was somewhat low to the conceptive and the specialized questions. It would have the significance differences in the disciple security cognition because of the work department (p<0.05), the work period of service since graduation (p<0.05), and the sample hospital work period of service (p<0.05) In point of the radiation safety education, the nursing staffs have great requirement and high cognition.Conclusion: This study provides the reference resources for medical superintendent to proceed the projects of pre-service training and on-the-job training, the guidance of prevention of occupational injuries, and the nursing educational. Besides, it helps the nursing staffs buildup the correct concept of radiation protection, reduces the anxiety about the medical ionizing radiation. Ensure the nursing staffs against being exposed radiation as working clinically and develop the quality of medical nursing.
