The pigeon pea are used to sown from February to March by the farmers of Taitung every year, and would flower and pod in December, be harvested in January of the following year. However, during the period of typhoon which is from July to October in Taitung, the peas of plants would often be attacked by the typhoon and died. In order to avoid the impacts of the cultivation and production of peas by typhoon attack, moreover, to reduce the occurrence of natural disasters and to decrease the losses of farmers. Therefore, this experiment postponed the peas' planting period of farmers in June, July and August respectively. After three years of experimental investigation, the three different sowing months were still flowering and pod-forming in December, and be harvested in January of the following year. It could be seen that there is a considerable pod yield during the planting period of pigeon pea in July-August. In addition, the farmers not only could reduce the loss by the typhoon disaster but also increase the income from different periods from February to June in the same field.
