Superplastic titanium and high-strength aluminium alloys in sheet form have many attractions for the aerospace industry, due to their high strengh, low density, and heat resistance. The materials are capable of high deformation up to 200% plastic st5rain, which permits the fabrication of very complicated parts and maintains this permanent stretch. Superplastic forming can offer several advantages over these conventional sheet metal part forming methods. Combined with advanced joining methods such as diffusion bonding and weld brazing, the forming process can allow the fabrication of complex monolithic structures, that were not only more cost competitive, but also often more structurally efficient.
