摘要

流傳在中國的許多笑話和趣事，往往淵源自佛經，其原始形態乃理事兼賅的敘述方式。隨著佛教的傳入與經典的翻譯，各種影響於焉開展。就佛家思想、經典或故事在民間的傳播而言，理事（故事）兼賅者有之，取理捨事者有之，取事捨理者有之，融理入事者有之。笑話、趣事的流傳，以「取事捨理」為最常見，甚至也有只取故事的基本架構而重新另造新事者，佛經、佛理的成份已全然消失。本文試以「不識鏡中人」故事為例，觀察此一現象的淵源與流變。
