The Electus Technology Proton Beam Treatment System, installed at the Loma Linda University Medical Center is an integrated facility designed to deliver cost-effective radiation therapy [1]. This complete, highly reliable system consists of six major systems: (1) a 70 to 250 MeV proton synchrotron, designed to the stringent requirements for proton beam treatment, (2) a beam transport system, (3) one or more fixed beam delivery systems, with beam spreading and shaping capabilities, (4) one or more isocentric gantries to provide flexibility in directing the proton beam, (5) a patient positioning system to ensure that the target tissue is accurately located, and (6) an integrated facility control system that provides electronic patient prescriptions, electronic record and verification, electronic scheduling, and three modes of operation (patient treatment, physics studies, and diagnostic).
