This paper points out value conflicts or identity conflicts are inevitable in an open and democratic society. Civic education aims to teach students the ability of independent thinking, moral reasoning and the skills to participate a public life. It becomes more and more important clearly. In this paper, the author clarifies the nature of ”politics of identity” in a post-modem society first, and then explains the importance of civic education and its function to reduce conflicts. Finally, taking national identity as example, the author develops a curriculum of civic education, which could be helpful in resolving the identity conflicts faced by our society.
