This study analyzed the third strokes in 12 badminton games(1015 third strokes in total)of world-class men's doubles from 1999 to 2000.After a goodness of fit test in chi-square test, this study had the following findings: 1)when the return of serve is aggressive, the third strokes were mostly passive(61.64%);2)when the return of serve was neutral, the third strokes were usually neutral(44.11%);3)when the return of serve was passive, the third strokes were always aggressive and scored(93.74%).Regardless of the type of return of serve, the third strokes in world-class men's doubles were primarily passive(44.83% out of a total of 1015 third strokes).There were some aggressive third strokes(16.85%),but scoring third strokes were much less frequent, only 5.52% of the total.
