Ergonomic Interventions in WMSDs Prevention-A Case Study of Chemical Company

In Taiwan, work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) in strenuous works are becoming a serious occupational safety and hygiene problem in industrial countries. Five major factors are recognized as causes of WMSDs, and should be decreased or eliminated to prevent WMSDs. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the improvement of three workplaces by ergonomic principles for WMSDs prevention in a chemical company. A developed atlas was used to help the improvement, Key Indicators Meth-od (KIM) was used to evaluate the goodness of the improvement quantitatively, and Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) was used to evaluate the improvement by the works' subjective rating. In this article, a case of chemical company was studied, and three stations in it were improved with ergonomics intervention. The results showed that the ratings by KIM of three stations were reduced, the subjective ratings were better.
