摘要

本書作者是歷史學的背景出身，因此，書中所採取的研究方法，是歷史實證方式。試圖透過對原始資料的發掘、組織建構與分析，重新詮釋共產中國成立後，美國對華政策的基調與演變，並以「遏制中國」理念貫串詮釋全書。然而，作者並未套用國際政治的理論，來在書中協助詮釋歷史現象，而是大量杷梳第一手資料，建立歷史解釋。因此，在本質上此書是屬於傳統的歷史研究作品。本書的主旨在考察朝鮮戰爭如何影響美國的東亞政策，尤其是對中共、臺灣、日本及東亞各國，美國在對外方針上有何重大改變。美國在朝鮮戰爭氛圍中如何建立圍堵中共擴張的防線，此舉又如何影響中共與美國的關係正常化進程。

The author is an historian. His study method adopts the historical evidence. He tries to use the original materials to discover and organize his construction and analyze. He explains the Communist establishment in China, and then the American democratical policy exploited in China. USA desires ”Controlling China”. Professor Lin uses it to explain it in his book.
Professor Lin doesn't adopt the international political theory in his book. He explains the historical phenomenon and exploits the first hand historical materials to establish his historical explanation. His book is a traditional historical study.
The main point in this book is written, from the Chau-Sien War how to influence the American Asian policy, especially the changeable policy of America against Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan and Eastern Asian countries. America establishes the lines to check Mainland China's expansion, by causing and keeping a balance power between America and Mainland China.
