Preoperative Evaluation of Tendon Injuries of the Hand with High-Frequency Sonography

Sonography for diagnosis of musculoskeletal abnormalities has the advantages of dynamic evaluation of structures, relatively low cost, no radiation, and wide availability. Preoperative assessment of blunt or neglected tendon injuries with high-frequency sonography is of great value in the differential diagnosis of tendon adhesion, joint stiffness or true tendon injuries. We have experienced three cases of suspected tendon injuries of the hand, which were assessed by high-frequency sonography (10 MHz) preoperatively. In all three cases, we were able to accurately locate and evaluate the pathology of the injured hands. High-frequency sonography can provide considerable contributions to preoperative planning.
