Host Plants and Infestation of Casuarina Moth Lymantria xylina (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae) in Taiwan

摘要

黑角舞蛾（Lymantria xylina，又稱木毒蛾）是本省木麻黃防風林的重要害蟲。根據紀錄，黑角舞蛾大發生於1928、1935、1983、及1984年，我們的田間調查顯示黑角舞蛾在臺灣至少取食29科、63種的植物。黑角舞蛾的63種寄主植物全是闊葉植物，其中9種是果樹。本文亦報告1995年5-6月黑角舞蛾在四湖、台中港木麻黃林的大發生，以及其在彰化縣噬盡數種果樹葉片的情形。這是臺灣首次發現黑角舞蛾為害果樹的報告。黑角舞蛾與寄主植物的關係以及1995年大發生在育林和森林經營上的意義也在本文中加以討論。

The casuarina moth Lymantria xylina is a significant pest of casuarina plantations in Taiwan. Outbreaks of L. xylina in Taiwan were recorded in 1928, 1935, 1983 and 1984. Based on our field survey in 1994 and 1995, a total of 63 species of plants, belonging to 29 families, were recorded to be fed on by Lymantria xylina in Taiwan. All 63 species of host plants arc hardwoods including I fruit trees. Outbreaks of L. xylina in casuarina plantations of Syhhu and Taichung Harbor and defoliation of fruit trees by L. xylina in Changhwa County from May to June of 1995 are reported here. This is the tie-at record of L. xylina damaging fruit trees in Taiwan. The implications of the moth-plant relationship and current outbreaks on silviculture and forest management are discussed.
