The case study reported the nursing experience of a liver cirrhosis patient with ascites and esophageal varices. Data were collected through nursing care, observations, interviewing, and interaction with the patient and families from April 10 2001 to May 10 2001. The patient had four major health problems including excess fluid volume, disturbed sleep pattern, anxiety, and risk for injury. Appropriate nursing interventions were provided to enhance the patient’s knowledge about the disease, to increase his ability to diet control and self-care, to lessen the problems of physical disability and anxiety. The quality of life of the patient was greatly improved.
