Patients' Fall Injuries and Its Related Factors in a Medical Center

摘要

The purpose of this study was to explore fall injuries and its related factors among hospitalized patients. Data were collected by analyzing the file in a medical center. Descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and multiple logistic regression were used for data analyses. The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) Among the total 326 patients with falls, 84.4% were injured (grade 1:73%, grade 2:5.8%, and grade 3:5.5%). Most of the fallers were age over 73.5 years old, male (72.4%), intending to get off the bed (56.7%), and were found around the bedside (95.4%). Moreover, the largest proportion of patient falls happened during 12AM to 8AM (36.5%). (2) Patients who perceived that they may fall or patients who think getting off bed should seek help from others had lower possibility of fall injuries. Based on the findings of this study, nurses can assess the patients' falls effectively and then prevent patient falls.
