Implant therapy has already reached a point where it has an important role to play in oral rehabilitation. To achieve good implant therapy without jeopardizing the surrounding vital structure is the most important guideline for such treatment. Therefore, surgical anatomy has become an important part of the field in this area. In addition, dental computerized tomography (CT) has progressed rapidly in recent years due to the needs of implant treatment. CT is an excellent non-invasive tool for studying anatomy. In addition, it is well known that anatomy shows variation between different racial groups. Therefore a detailed analysis of the implant site or sites is necessary for each case before any surgery takes place in order to avoid any unnecessary damage. The purpose of this article is to review and compare 3D information available in the literature for Eastern and Western individuals in relation to maxillary and mandibular structures. Each structure includes the anatomy, the CT image findings and the differences between Eastern and Western populations; furthermore. These factors will be highlighted in relation to implant surgery. Hopefully, the above information will be beneficial to practitioners who are carrying out implant treatment.
