Pre-setting score of difficulty, set by a rhythmic gymnastics coach, was usually determined by the experience of coaching. Less objective and useful data was provided for the reference of setting the score for players of different classes. Forty-eight players were divided into elite and sub-elite groups equally. Those who were qualified for the 2008 Olympic Game were classed as elite while the others were classed as sub-elite. Pearson correlation was used to analyze the correlation between pre-setting score, final score and score difference. The difference of the mentioned parameters between elite and sub-elite groups was also compared. For rope, hoop, clubs and ribbon, pre-setting score and final score were significantly higher in elite than in sub-elite players. For clubs and ribbon, the score difference was significantly larger in sub-elite than in elite players. Pre-setting score was significantly positively associated with the final score in both groups, whereas pre-setting score significantly positively associated with the final score only in sub-elite group. We concluded that players of different classes had different pre-setting score, final score and score difference of difficulty. The higher the pre-setting score, the larger the score difference performed in sub-elite group. For sub-elite players, reducing the pre-setting score to a reasonable range is suggested.
