Shànggu kòu shì's appearance in the era of the Northern-Wei regime showed the interaction between the local forces and the central government. Kòu shì's rising in the politics relied on local community operation and the Tian shidào of Kòu Qianzhi, and thus getting political and social status. Politically, this family was not only activated in local area, but also prominent in the officialdom bureaucracy. There was a close link between Shànggu kòu shì and Northern-Wei. Socially, although the family had got new Jùn wàng, it still pursued the status of famous surname by promoting ancestral origin and inheriting the tradition of Jùn wàng. In addition, it had marriages with families of equal social rank to expand social network. Culturally, because its political status was promoted by favorable conditions, the family also got central officials.
