通識教育課程缺課原因之探討

Evaluation of the Reasons for Absences from General Education Courses

摘要


通識敎育已成爲大學敎育重要的一環。本研究的主要目的爲瞭解通識敎育課程學生缺課之次數、動機,並提出改進的辦法。研究對象爲修「人與醫學」之醫學院學生253位,及修「醫學與生活」之非醫學院學生218位。「人與醫學」上課時間爲星期五下午一至三時,「醫學與生活」則爲星期三下午一至三時。期末測驗時,順便附上不記名之問卷調查,包括缺課幾次、缺課的理由、這堂課有否幫助,及建議如何改進會不缺課。結果顯示「人與醫學」課程有42%的學生在14次上課中缺課三次以上,而「醫學與生活」課程則有60%的學生在16次上課中缺課三次以上。另有考試要準備是很常見的缺課理由,在「人與醫學」高達32%,在「醫學與生活」則爲47%。另外比較常見的缺課理由在「人與醫學」以回家最多,而「醫學與生活」則是交通問题。認爲這堂課幫助很大或普通的人,於「人與醫學」爲70%,在「醫學與生活」則爲87%。在「人與醫學」方面,使課程内容生動有趣、生活化,更改上課時間及地點,是最重要的讓學生不缺課的方法。在「醫學與生活」,則使課程内容生活化、簡化及在台大羅斯福路校總區開課而不是在仁爱路醫學院上課,和點名是最重要的讓學生不缺課的方法。總之,通識敎育對學生是有幫助的,但受到重视的程度可能不如專業科目,因此採用較有趣生動、實用的敎學方式,並考慮學生上課的方便性,及安排適當的上課時間,可能是改善缺課情形的重要方法。

General education courses are an importantpart of one's college education.The aim ofthis study was to elucidate the reasons for absencesfrom general education courses,and tofind methods to improve this situation.InJanuary 2000,I surveyed 253 students taking”Humans and Medicine”,and 218 students taking”Medicine and Life”.The course,”Humansand Medicine”covers the history of the developmentof medicine for medical students,while”Medicine and Life”includes knowledgeof general medicine designed for non-medicalstudents.Each course consists of 2 hours of lectureeach week at 1-3 PM,on Fridays,andWednesdays,respectively.A questionnaire includedwith the final examination asked aboutseveral things:the number of absences,thereasons for the absences,whether the coursewas helpful,and ways to improve it to decreaseabsences.The results showed that 42% of studentswere absent 3 or more times out of 14lectures in”Humans and Medicine”,and 60%of students were absent 3 or more times out of16 lectures in”Medicine and Life”.Havingother examinations was a frequent reason forabsences,appearing in 32% of reasons for absencesin students of”Humans and Medicine”,and 47% of those in”Medicine and Life”.Other important reasons for absences weregoing home in”Humans and Medicine”,andtraffic problems in”Medicine and Life”.However,70% of students in”Humans andMedicine”,and 87% of students in”Medicineand Life”considered the courses to be helpful.Making the teaching content interesting andpractical and changing the time and place ofthe lecture were considered to be importantmethods to decrease absences in”Humans andMedicine”.Making the teaching content practicaland easy to understand was considered tobe important method to decrease absences in”Medicine and Life”.In conclusion,generaleducation is helpful for students,but might notbe ranked as equal to professional education bystudents.Therefore,making course contents interestingand practical and changing the timeand place of the lecture to allow students to bemore comfortable may be ways to decrease absencesin general education courses.(Full Textin Chinese)
