摘要

Objectives: The study was aimed to explore whether unmedicated patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) have poorer metabolic profiles than healthy normal subjects. Methods: Fifty-five unmedicated MDD patients, 25 unmedicated euthymic patients with a history of MDD, and 76 healthy subjects were matched for age, sex, body mass index, and life stress, using recent life change questionnaire. We examined the subjects' fasting glucose and other metabolic profiles. Results: The results showed significant differences among MDD patients, euthymic patients and the control group in fasting serum glucose level (p < 0.05). Further analyzed data showed that the fasting serum glucose in MDD patients was significantly higher than that in the healthy controls (p < 0.05), and that no significant difference in fasting serum glucose was found between euthymic patients and the others two study groups. Conclusion: This result might suggest that fasting serum glucose level would be significantly different when the degrees of MDD severity are different.
