Background: The Internet is a means to build interpersonal relationships, but the risk of Internet addictive behaviors exists. In this study, we intended to explore the relationship between attachment styles and Internet addictive behaviors. Methods: We administered the Chinese Internet Addiction Scale-R and the Adult Attachment Scale to 184 college students. Results: As for other addictive behaviors, insecure attachment styles were significantly to have positive relation to Internet addictive behaviors (r=0.25, p<0.01), whereas secure attachment style was significantly to have negative relation to Internet addictive behaviors. With the internal working model, the self model underlying attachment style was significantly to have negative relation to Internet addictive behaviors (r=-0.36, p<0.001). Conclusion: This study shows that the Internet addictive behaviors were related negative to the positive self model attachment style. We suggest the findings of this study could be considered for Internet addiction prevention.
