The Hypothesis of Cognitive Reserve

The hypothesis of "cognitive reserve" against brain pathology is mainly based on repeated observations that the clinical manifestation of the brain damage is not directly related to the degree of brain pathology. In this overview, the authors start with laying out the phenomenon magnitude of becoming aging, or aged, or even super-aged societies of people in Asian counties. Then, "successful aging" contrasting "dementia" (unsuccessful aging) is described in the context of attempting to achieve best cognitive reserve. At the end, the authors suggest some important points in lifestyle changes in being physically healthy, being socially active, athletically active, and feeling satisfi ed, being conscientious of eating healthy diet. Some selective study data are also reviewed to make the case of cognitive reserve to convince the readers to pursue the lifestyle to achieve successful aging, or maximizing cognitive reserve.
