The development of pollution ecology is presented in this paper based on the review of the research history of soil pollution control in China. The emphasis was put on the target, contents and methodology of soil pollution study in the past 20 years. The future strategies for soil pollution control and clean-up of contaminated soil in China were also pointed out.
