Evaluating facial profiles and facial balance is a continuous learning process for orthodontics. The effects of orthodontic treatment have focused on predictive aspects of the relationship between incisors and lips. However, the orthodontic tooth movement s constrained by the envelope of structure and the soft tissue. To remain within acceptable boundaries, extractions may be necessary n some cases. If the malocclusion can not be corrected within the envelope, even with extraction for compensation, orthognathic surgery may be needed. The patient should understand that sometimes it is not possible to achieve deal occlusion and optimal facial balance. To this extent, orthodontic treatment will have to reflect a compromise. Therefore, a delineation of the limits of orthodontic tooth movement prior to the start of treatment would be extremely beneficial.
