The purpose of this paper is to examine an emerging curriculum option, the international baccalaureate diploma program (IBDP). Focuses of this paper include the development of IBDP, its curriculum framework, characteristics and challenges, as well as its implications for Taiwan's upper secondary education. Document analysis, literature review, and interviews were used for addressing the research questions. IBDP is not only an option for international education, but also a possible alternative for reforming teaching and learning models in upper secondary education. Suggestions for incorporating IBDP in Taiwan's upper secondary education are provided at the end of the paper.
