Today, many people participate in leisure activities. However, sport injuries may occur when people engage in leisure physical activity without proper preparation. Achilles tendinosis is one of disturbing injuries for individuals who enjoy running and jogging. Although several kinds of clinical therapies have been reported and used, the most effective treatment for Achilles tendinosis has not been developed completely. This review focused on the literature relating to the effects of eccentric exercise on Achilles tendinosis. The article presented the structure of tendon and the pathologic characteristics of Achilles tendinosis. Two kinds of effective eccentric exercises using in the treatments of tendinosis were introduced and summarized. Finally, the possible mechanisms of eccentric exercise for the recovery of Achilles tendinosis were reported.
