This article described the nursing experience of a patient with respiratory failure secondary to the Du Xianxing muscle atrophy. With the Gordon's 11 Health Function Appraisal, the data were collected and analyzed during the period of nursing care from May 1(superscript st) to May 20(superscript th) 2008. Four identified nursing diagnosis were: low efficacy of respiratory pattern, impaired elimination of respiratory secretion, anxiety, and impaired functional mobility. The nursing interventions were implemented through proactive concern, continuity of care, and good patient-nurse interaction. The main nm-sing activities included the coordination of medical treatments, designation of an individualized nm-sing care plan, and provision of patient education to improve the existing health problems.
