Work overload and poor working environment have a negative impact on the emotional and physical statuses among nurses and thus affect the retention of nursing staff. Therefore, the voice of work-life balance has received increasing attention in work environment. The Labor Standards Act provides the most basic criteria for working conditions. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for nursing administrators to understand and follow the regulations of labor conditions, and identify the impact of work-life balance on nurses' retention so that strategies for nurses' retention can be formulated. This article discusses the effects the amendment of the content in the Labor Standards Act might have on the work-life impact of work conditions. Factors associated with work-life balance are addressed. Finally, a work-life balance improvement strategy is proposed and discussed.
