We aimed to examine the concerns of fertility intention, fertility planning and pregnancy experience among women of reproductive age with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Data collection was conducted with a structured questionnaire from August 15, 2017 to October 2, 2018. Female patients aged 20 to 40 were included. The analysis was processed with SPSS 22.0 software. A total of 144 valid questionnaires were received in the study. The analysis showed 79.2% of the patients thought that it was ideal to have two children in a family. However, only 38.9% of them planned to do so. Up to 88.2% of the patients with SLE worried about complications during pregnancy. A total of 73.6% of patients had no particular intention of conception. Only 4.9% were eager to have a baby at any cost. There was no significant correlation between marital status and fertility intention, fertility planning, eagerness to have a baby and consider adopting a child. Most patients expressed the main reason for fertility is their health status. To improve the outcome, medical personnel should provide the preconception counseling and risk assessment for the patients. Further efforts focusing on this issue are warranted.
