Using Pierre Bourdieu's theory of cultural capital and Amartya Sen's theory of capability approach as a framework, this paper sought to examine the equality of educational opportunity for low SES and culturally diverse gifted students and offer four suggestions for promoting equality of educational opportunity. These suggestions are (1) nurturing teachers as transformative intellectuals; (2) using approaches to multicultural curriculum; (3) improving an individual's abilities to convert resources and maximize development; (4) providing students with many options with respect and opportunities to realize themselves.
