Perinatal mental health is important to women and their families. The author reviewed various ways of mental health services in perinatal stage. For pregnant women, psychosocial evaluation and continuous rapport establishment were implemented. During childbirth, nursing support, doula support, empathetic modeling and empowerment were adopted. After childbirth, psychosocial evaluation in primary care, listening visit, parent-infant psychotherapy and mother-baby unit were applied for mothers. In Taiwan, the mental health interventions aimed for perinatal women were limited. For the improvement of perinatal mental health services in Taiwan, the author suggested that practitioners can develop ”empathetic modeling and empowerment” base on the current ”room-in” policy. Also, we can add elements of ”parent-infant psychotherapy” into the existing ”breastfeeding support group”. Further discussion and exploration in this area was expected.
