Digital Integral Action in Variable Structure Control with Fuzzy Logic for DC-to-AC Converters

This paper develops a digital integral action in variable structure control with fuzzy logic for single-phase DC-to-AC converter to obtain high-quality AC output voltage under different kinds of loads. The digital integral action in variable structure control (DIVSC) not only suits for digital realization due to its finite sampling frequency but also provides to achieve zero steady-state error. Also, fuzzy logic technique with a computationally simple and practically easy estimator is integrated into DIVSC to resolve the problems of system uncertainties and disturbances. Simulation results show that the proposed controller can lead to low total harmonic distortion under rectifier-type loading conditions and fast dynamic response under step change loading conditions. Experimental results on a single-phase DC-to-AC converter laboratory prototype controlled by a dSPACE-based DSP controller are presented to validate both the theoretical analysis and the simulation results. Because the presented methodology is considerably simpler to implement than prior methods and offers easier to program, this paper will be of interest to designers of related control systems.
