Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease which is common in young women. It is characterized by joint, skin, renal, neurologic, peritoneal/pleural and hematologic involvement. We report on a case of persistent gastrointestinal dysfunction in a 15-year-old female and she was diagnosed as SLE finally. Evaluation of abdominal pain in SLE patients is complicated. It is dangerous and easy to miss the diagnosis if the patient has unknown disease and presents with only acute gastroenteritis (AGE) symptoms. Definitive treatment is commonly delayed because of difficulty in diagnosis. SLE should be considered in young females with persistent gastrointestinal dysfunction.
