In Taiwan the appearance of the first Spanish-Chinese dictionary was destined to facilitate the learning of Spanish. It related clearly to the foundation of the departments of Spanish in the universities in the 60s of last century. Since then for more than 40 years, we have had three dictionaries used by the majority of pupils of Spanish. They have served in different epochs as important tool to help in decoding the Spanish language. These three dictionaries present big differences both in the design of the microstructure and in the selection of their entries. The present study of Spanish-Chinese dictionaries try to establish a general historical panorama of the lexicography from 1960 to the beginning of the 21st century, paying attention to different areas, such as the prologue, the macrostructure and the microstructure to make critical evaluations of the development of the bilingual dictionaries in Taiwan.
