“視覺化”與當代設計思維

Visualization and Contemporary Design

摘要


「視覺化」這個詞對美術或設計人來說並不感覺陌生,在實務操作上,亦同爲重要的學門用語,視覺化在許多時候也是設計的另種稱謂。只是隨著視覺科技的成熟發展,我們發現視覺化這個名稱逐漸與其他特定名詞相結合,例如有「知識可視化、科學計算可視化、資訊視覺化」等。當這些從網路所搜尋出、且爲數不少的視覺化名稱和其議題的導向看似偏離原有一般人對視覺化和設計在技術操作上的連結時,不禁令人疑惑視覺化議題和設計間的關連性是否已產生變化?身爲設計人該如何看待視覺化這個名稱逐漸與其他非設計概念詞彙相結合的現象?這層面的疑問,正是本文嘗試想要探究的。以文獻探討的方式,對這些非設計衍生的視覺化趨向的各種名詞進行了解、並整理其各中的差異、與理解其視覺化之「化繁爲簡」的精神與特徵後發現,設計人若從學術的研究趨勢樣貌、感性工學研究模式的系統化、與產品風格再現方法探究的取向、以及將抽象理論、知識作視覺轉化的研究之四個面向上去做觀察,實可察覺在學術研究文獻裡的當代設計思維,其實已透露一種與這股非設計衍生的視覺化趨向相近似的氛圍。換句話說,藉由探究非設計衍生的視覺化趨向的脈絡,設計人可從中找到重新審視視覺化和設計的關連性非但繼存,更已經超越過去侷限在設計操作技術層面上的討論與認識。

Artists and designers are not unfamiliar with the word ”visualization”. In practical operation, it is also an important academic term. In many cases, visualization is also another title for design. However, along with the development of the visual technology, we have found that the term visualization has been gradually combined with other specific terms, such as: ”knowledge visualization, scientific computing visualization, and information visualization”, etc. When these are discovered from the Internet, numerous visualization names and the orientation of their topic discussions appear to be deviations from people’s links to visualization and the designs in technical operations, people cannot help but wonder whether the relationship between the topic discussed and visualization design has already changed. This paper attempts to explore how designers should deal with the term visualization, which has gradually been combined with other terms from non-design concepts, at the current stage. By using document exploration methods to understand the various terms of these non-design derived visualization trends, organizing the difference between them, and achieving the ”simplified the complexity” spirit and characteristic of visualization, it is found that if designers observe from the four orientations of academic research trend appearance, the systematic Kansei Engineering research model, product style reproduction method exploration, and visual transforming abstract theory and knowledge research, they will find an atmosphere that is similar to this non-design derivative visualization trend in the design concepts behind the academic research document. Essentially, through exploration of the context of the non-design derived visualization trend, designers will discover that the connection between re-examining visualization and design visualization not only existed but also went beyond the past discussion and understanding limited at the technical level of design operation.
