For nurse, drug administration is a high risk nursing practice. If wrong medication is given, it may cause medical, legal problem, and increase medical cost. Therefore in order to accurate drug administration, nursing knowledge and ability improvement is the best way to accomplish it. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the problems associated with inpatient child's medication administration. Using pediatric ward working nurse as convenience subjects, self-design questionnaire is administered in the means of interview and ground observation by the investigators. A 38 subjects are recruited, then the continuous education and audits to prevent any mistakes from drug administration. After 6 months of follow-up, nursing staffs increase their knowledge of medications from 66.3% to 92.5%, and accuracy of drug administration increase from 73.2% to 99.1%. Using pair t-test and Pearson correlation, the results show the knowledge and behavior of medications are both reach statistical significance (p<0.05). In conclusion, the application of continuous quality improvement concept benefit to increase the nursing staffs accuracy of drug administration.
