The purpose of this study is to understand the bone mineral density of adolescent girls, related factors and predictors. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 16-18 years old adolescent girls in southern Taiwan. Quantitative ultrasound measurement and structural questionnaire were applied in each subject. A total of 500 valid samples were collected. The data were analyzed by SPSS. The results showed that: (1) the subjects' average bone mineral density was -0.21; no matter the subjects with normal bone mineral density or not, more than half of them didn't have the habit of regular exercise. They almost didn't do high weight-bearing exercise; (2) BMI, self-perceived health status and bone mineral density have significant difference; and (3) BMI was the predictor of bone mineral density of adolescent girls. The results could be provided to health departments and county/city health bureaus for reference on policy of osteoporosis prevention for adolescent girls.
