Background and Purpose: Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of foot pain, and different studies reported that the taping technique helps alleviate such symptoms. This study aimed to summarize the effects of taping technique on pain and function in the short-term management of plantar fasciitis. Methods: English-written articles were searched until July 2021 through PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library databases using a predefined search strategy. Randomized control trials or randomized clinical trials were included in determining the effect of taping intervention. Outcomes were pain scale (visual analog pain scale (VAS) or numerical pain rating scale (NPRS), and foot function index (FFI), reversed foot function index (R-FFI), or patient's functional scale (PSFS) using pooled analysis with a level of significance at p ＜ 0.05. The PEDro score was used to assess the methodological quality of the included studies. Results: 14 articles (n = 546) were included in the current meta-analysis. No significant difference between the taping and conventional groups in pain scale (standard mean difference [SMD] = -0.4609, CI = [-1.1001, 0.1782], p = 0.150, I^2 = 91.3%) and in both FFI and R-FFI (SMD = -0.1133, CI = [-0.8232, 0.5967], p = 0.750, I^2 = 81.3%) were noted. PSFS, on the other hand, showed significant difference between groups (SMD = 0.9535, CI = [0.3683, 1.5387], p = 0.001, I^2 = 0.0%). Conclusions: The effects on pain and foot function index were no different between taping and conventional therapy, but taping showed the better effects on reducing perceived disability compared to conventional therapy. Clinical Relevance: Our findings suggest that taping can help patients with plantar fasciitis improve both their pain and perceived disability. Nonetheless, the effect of various taping methods may require further investigation in the future.
