The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between leisure motivation and serious leisure. In this study 295 rock climbers from northern, central and southern part of Taiwan were participated. All the participants were tested with Leisure Motivation Scale and Serious Leisure Scale. The collected data were analyzed by canonical correlation. In the results we found a correlation between leisure motivation and serious leisure. In addition, intrinsic motivation to accomplish, intrinsic motivation to experience stimulation and integrated regulation were positively related to personal effort, identified benefits, career and perseverance. On the contrary, a motivation was negatively related to personal effort, identified benefits, career, and perseverance. The findings were explained and some applications of the results were mentioned. However, more suggestions are offered for future detailed research in this area.
