Previous studies showed that humans have attention resources independently in both hemispheres, but research investigating on the capacity of hemisphere-specific attention resources is limited in elite table tennis (TT) players. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether hemisphere-specific attention resource capacity is influenced by the dominant hand of the elite TT players. Twenty-eight Taiwanese national level TT players (13 males and 15 females) were recruited, including 8 left-handed and 20 right-handed TT players. The number of tracked targets (1, 2), the target moving speeds (0.6 revolution per second (r/s), 0.9 r/s, 1.2 r/s) and the tracking visual field (left or right) were manipulated in the multiple object tracking (MOT) task, which measured the attention resource capacity, and the definition of ipsilateral or contralateral attentional resources was based on the subject's dominant hand. Results indicated that: (1). The tracking accuracy in the contralateral visual filed of the dominant hand is significantly higher than that of the ipsilateral visual field. (2). The contralateral attention resource with dominant hand supports TT players tracking faster moving targets. (3). The tracking accuracy is not significantly different between contralateral and ipsilateral visual fields, as tracking in the slow speeds and condition of the 1 and 2 targets. In conclusion, the tracking performance in the MOT task is affected by the dominant hand of the TT players. The TT players have higher capacity in the contralateral attention resources to the dominant hand, which tracking accuracy can reach more than 90% at a tracking speed of 0.9 r/s, and more than 70% in tracking speed of 1.2 r/s. The contralateral visual field's attention resources to the dominant hand may be used as the MOT ability evaluation for athletes who engaged in single-hand racket sport training.
