Stress at the working place as a cause of burnout syndrome of nurses and technicians

護理與醫檢人員在工作上的壓力與過勞

摘要

Stress is a state of physical and mental tension caused by factors that alter the existing balance. Every day we encounter stress that occurs in both private and work environments. While providing care for their patients, nurses and technicians are involved in dealing with many personal issues, physical and spiritual needs, fears and hopes. Although most of them chose their profession following the call to help sick people, it is a very demanding job that involves constant participation, constant interaction with patients, their families and coworkers. In everyday work, stress and work overload can result in burnout syndrome in nurses and technicians. Burnout syndrome signifies a progressive loss of idealism, energy, and meaningfulness of one's own work as a result of prolonged frustration and stress in the workplace. By recognizing certain conditions, we can take appropriate actions by which we can achieve change: try to change ourselves; try to change the work environment; and try to change attitudes toward work. By taking certain preventive activities, we can reduce stress factors and successfully face stress and burnout syndrome.
