Estimating the RFID Technology Potency in a Forest Survey Sampling

With the development of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, many application domains have applied the technology to support the routine operations. The ranges of forest in Taiwan are wide and inconvenient; it needs a great amount of labors and materials to proceed to the forest resource survey. In addition, manual records would easily produce mistakes. FRID was predicted that they can effectively promote forest resource survey with to assisting investigator. This study used 120 trees of Diospyros philippensis (Desr.) Gurke as a survey target that was located in the 36th compartment of Hengchun working circle. Used two different types of Tag equipments (Tag 501w, ABS Stick Tag) with two different types of PDA (HP iPAQh 2790C, CPT 9400CE) to make up The four different types of RFID equipments would be evaluated by the effective power of distance and time, and statistical analysis would be used in this research. PDA at the same time each survey recorded in the actual operation of power loss, and to observe the damage status of electronic tags. The results showed that reading effectiveness of 2790C PDA and ABS electronic labels information is the best. It could reach about 2.86 cm and the reading off time was 0.76s. The power loss of PDA, 9400CE was higher than the 2790C. In addition, the electronic tags to set in the forest a month later, two pieces had been unable to properly reading and a small portion of the soil surface and covered with sawdust. Obviously radio frequency technology for forest resource survey work, yet may be affected by many uncertain factors, so still a long time to repeated observations to improve the accuracy.
