Notes on the spread of the genus Macrotyloma (Wight & Arn.) Verdc. (Fabaceae) in Taiwan: description of a newly naturalized species M. axillare (E. Mey.) Verdc.

摘要

The yellow-green/yellow-to-cream flowers of plants belonging to the genus Macrotyloma (Wight & Arn.) Verdc. (Fabaceae) form characteristic fascicle-like racemes by which they can be distinguished from other Fabaceae species. Only one species of the genus, Macrotyloma uniflorum (Lam.) Verdc., has been recorded in Taiwan in the past. Here, we report a newly naturalized species, Macrotyloma axillare (E. Mey.) Verdc., which could be distinguished from M. uniflorum by a larger (12-15 × 9-12 mm) standard, triangular calyx lobes and stems and leaves covered with appressed hairs. The taxonomic description, color photographs and line drawings of M. axillare are provided to facilitate its identification.
