從西醫觀點看小兒生長遲緩

摘要

生長遲緩是中西醫兒科醫師最常遭遇的問題之一。小兒生長遲緩（Failure to thrive）不僅可能有較高的機率造成身材矮小外，更可能對智力發展造成影響，或是出現心理社會行為適應不良的現象，甚至造成行為異常、語言障礙、認知疾患、人格異常等問題。所以，如何早期診斷並治療已成為兒科醫師面臨的挑戰。此篇文章概述西醫對生長遲緩的定義、病因與治療，並著墨於西醫對此問題的評估與篩選方法，期望有助於各位中醫先進發現有此類問題的兒童，及早給予適當治療，避免不良預後，同時期望各位先進能進一步研擬出中西醫整合之療法，給予病童更完善之醫療。

Growth retardation is one of the most frequently encountered issues by the pediatrician in both Chinese and Western medicine. Children with growth retardation (Failure to thrive) may not only have a higher probability of causing short stature, but is more likely to affect intellectual development, appear maladaptive psychological phenomenon or social behavior, and even cause abnormal behavior, speech impairment, cognitive disorders, personality disorders and other issues. So, how early diagnosis and treatment of children with failure to thrive has become a challenge for pediatricians. In this article we overview the definition, etiology and treatment of growth retardation in Western medicine, and dwell on this issue in the assessment and screening methods. We hope it may help you to find the children with such problems, to give an appropriate treatment as soon as possible, and to avoid adverse outcomes. We also look forward to your further development of advanced integration of Chinese and Western medicine therapy, giving these children with better medical treatment. Ephedra, Apricot Kernel, Licorice, and Gypsum Decoction is a common formula to external contraction cough.
