This paper investigates the relation between informativeness of earnings and the ownership structure of companies listed in Taiwan Stock Exchange. The empirical results show that controlling shareholders on average own 26.85% of the voting rights. Family members of corporations in Taiwan generally hold the decisive voting right, but they do not significantly affect the informativeness of earnings. However, for companies of the enterprise groups, controlling shareholders are perceived to report accounting earning earnings for self-interested purposes, causing the reported earnings to lose credibility to outside investors.
