Anaphylaxis in the Operating Theatre-A Case Report

Anaphylaxis is a sudden-onset, rare, and life-threatening reaction. There are many causes of anaphylaxis, such as some foods, drugs, insect stings, latex, and others. We report herein a case of anaphylaxis that occurred in the operating theatre, a possible cause being drugs used for general anesthesia and preventive antibiotics. Diagnosis was confirmed by clinical presentation and supported by the serum total tryptase level at the time of the episode compared with the baseline level 24 hours afterwards. We also conducted a basophil activation test to identify the drug that was the most likely cause of the potentially fatal reaction.
